These Are Words. John Vehon
These are words to fill in the gaps
Until I can think of something else
First thing that comes to my head
It don't matter if it rhymes
Just a temporary measure
To help me write the melody
You may wonder could this ever
Turn into a song, well so do I
It never happened quite like this before
Words were always hard to find
I searched for them everywhere
Now I'm not so choosy
The second verse, it's time to do it
Grab some words and stick them here
Pull them from their hiding places
They're not as clever as they seem
It won't be forever
I'll change them later
As soon as I can get around to it
But first there's other things
That demand my attention
It never happened quite like this before
Words were always hard to find
I searched for them everywhere
Now I'm not so choosy
These are words that don't mean nothing
Don't trouble yourself trying to understand
No deep thoughts lie underneath the surface
I might as well say la la la
Maybe next time I will
I wonder what it will be like
Later when the song is done
It will have some real words
Not just ones that I pretend
I'll make up rhymes and metaphors
Fill it with flowery phrases
I just hope the ideas come before too long
It never happened to me this way before
Words were always so hard to find
I searched for them everywhere
Now I'm not so choosy
These are words that don't mean anything
Don't try to dig deep down into them
I would not want you to be disappointed
I might as well be saying la la la
Maybe next song I will
'Til the words come
I'm waiting for the words
To come
Oh yeah
