Dear Editor,

The Republicans made a big to-do because Vice President Al Gore took time out of his schedule and made phone calls from his office to potential donors for the Democratic party - the party that's at a severe disadvantage when it comes to raising funds.

Yet Vice President Dick Cheney's whole job is raising funds for the Republican party, flying all over the place, and I'm sure with plenty of taxpayer expense involved for security, etc.

Let people like Peter Lewis and George Soros provide some good financing to try to counter the Republicans and all their money, and then here come the Republicans to accuse the Democrats of trying to buy the election.

The Republican party has been very critical of the Democrats for holding up the confirmation of certain judicial nominees put forth by President Bush, while never responding to the Democratic contention that the Republicans held up and terminated the nominations of many of President Clinton's nominees.

That's the way the Republican party operates, criticizing and capitalizing on the Democrats' splinters, when they're so full of logs.

And what do the Democrats have to put up against the public relations savvy of the Republicans? A dumb, lifeless party that offers nothing, with a collection of candidates who are all totally uninspiring. I'm sure it's going to be a slam dunk for the Republicans in November.

Thank you,  John Vehon
