Dear Editor,
Concerning the recent full-page diatribe in the Sunday "Points" section against Paris Hilton – which, as a newspaper with very limited space for people's views, thank goodness you could find room for it – I myself do not hate Miss Hilton. I love her.
Number one, she's like everybody else in the world – she was thrown into a life she didn't ask for and has to do the best she can with it.
Number two, she's very young, and maybe will develop some more depth as life goes on. And if she doesn't, I guess she'll be joining a lot of people.
As for Miss Hilton's moral position in the world, there's a lot more to morality than sex. Everywhere I turn there are liars and cheats and people who aren't what they say they are, who all they really care about is themselves and their own interests. At least Paris Hilton is honest and doesn't try to pull the wool over anybody's eyes.
My feeling is that it would be very easy for Paris to do nothing but party and have fun, but she's out there doing all kinds of projects and things, trying to make herself useful. On her television program, Simple Life, which I enjoyed and want to know when the next season will begin, there were several times when she put herself in grave personal danger, including the time she came about one inch from being gored in the belly by a longhorn cow, and she got bucked off a horse and fearlessly got back up and carried on. She ventured far outside of her personal box and comfort zone in that show in a way that few ever do.
Paris Hilton can come simplify my life anytime.
Thank you, John Vehon
