Subject: Editorial:  General Pinochet of Chile better than Castro

Dear Editor,

You can whitewash the evil dictator, General Pinochet of Chile, with praise of his economic performance, as you did in your editorial – and then said how great he was compared to Fidel Castro in Cuba – but you forgot there's a difference between the two. If we had given Castro our full support the way we did General Pinochet, then perhaps he might have been able to accomplish a great deal more. Instead, all we have ever done is sabotage and work to harm Castro – who himself replaced an evil, American-supported dictator – and the Cuban people. A large amount of the unhappiness in Cuba is because we have fomented and encouraged it. The fact is, if more leaders of countries had Fidel Castro's basic generosity, this world would be a much better place.

Thank you,

John Vehon
