Congratulations on winning the Scripps Howard Foundation National Journalism Award for Distinguished Service to the First Amendment [announced in a full-page ad in The Dallas Morning News]. It makes me proud to live in a city where the local newspaper has such a strong commitment to the First Amendment as The Dallas Morning News. You are a newspaper that is devoted to the free flow of ideas, and you are diligent to make sure your readers know the full story. Thank you for being the protector of our freedom.

author's note:  this is a satire in which I said the exact opposite of what I believe, which is that their commitment to the First Amendment is totally marginal and something that is exercised only to the extent that it serves their self-interests
