Dear Editor,

Reflecting on Governor Perry's upcoming two-week bus tour through Iowa, it occurs
to me that we need a new Constitutional Amendment. It should say that no occupant
of a political office would be allowed to conduct a political campaign, period. He or
she would do the job they were elected to do, and are generally very well paid to do,
including very often with generous lifetime benefits for after they leave office –
including, very often, opportunities to make money after they leave office that they
would have never had if not for their former political office. The Amendment would
apply not only to people like Governor Perry, who's leaving the state to seek another
office, but even to incumbents in their current offices. If they do such a wonderful job
while they are in office, the voters will want them back without having to be bombarded
with their marketing messages. If not, then they will likely be replaced. No problem.
There are many other worthy and capable citizens who would love to serve, and ought to
have the opportunity. Of course we'll have to work out the details.

Thank you,

John Vehon
