Subject: "Value free education" blamed for U.S. problems

Dear Editor,
President Reagan laments the failure of our educational system to teach values to our children. But values are not learned by memorizing what is read or recited or proclaimed in school. They are learned as parents guide their children through the situations that confront them, and as children watch how their parents and other adults operate in the world in general. That's the problem.
Thank you, John Vehon
